I have just started to encounter a problem with my HAH, where by after a number of hours cron stops working but ever thing else is fine.

Is there a log file I can monitor/access to establish what is going wrong and at what time.

I am not sure if it could be a hardware problem.

Any help in tracking this problem down would be much aprechiated.

Many thanks

Sadly I'm not going to be

Sadly I'm not going to be much help but I have the same issue. After a while (usually several days) the cron stops working. If I issue a ps then crond is still shown as a process but all related activity seems to stop. I can't find any log or output that shows anything is wrong.

I don't usually spot it until the heating doesn't work or something doesn't switch on of off when it's supposed to.

Sorry I can't be more help.

Update 1

Allan

Many thanks for the reply.

My HAH system developed this problem about 3 weeks ago at first I did not realise it was cron that had stopped working as everything else was still functional. I have a WEB relay that enables me to de-power the live box remotely if it gets locked up while I am away from home, so I just kept resetting the HAH. Then I noticed it was cron that had stopped working. I monitored this for a few days and tried a few things but none of them rectified the problem.

So I entered the following in to crontab

00-59/2 * * * * aliasmsg "rf 23 on"

01-58/2 * * * * aliasmsg "rf 23 off"

This sends a RF 23 on/off command every min, so I monitored this using xfx and discovered cron was stopping around 01:15 and 01:30.

Yesterday I decided to do a “/etc/init.d/update force clean” and restore from backup, so far the problem has not happened again, but its only been just over 24 hours.

If you do the clean build make sure you copy the complete “etc” directory as you may need some files.

Thanks for this I might give

Thanks for this I might give it a go sometime. As it happens I'm about to replace my CH boiler and will probably move away from HAH control, so at least SWMBO won't go ballistic if the heating dies next winter!

I have a logging cron and a few switching crons which aren't too critical so I'm just living with it at the moment also when the heating is no longer dependent on the HAH it will be easier to fiddle around and try reboots and updates.

Thanks again for your pointers.

Allan
