OK, so I've got myself a Livebox and want to get started with it and xAP. I have an old Nokia 6110 mobile phone (brick type, not the "Navigator" model) and apart from a data cable, what else to I need?

Where do I plug the datacable in?

- Do I need a special lead to convert from the MMJ port?

- Do I need a usb-serial adaptor and use the USB port of the Livebox itself?

Hope you can help,

Cheers,

Tim.

You connect your mobile phone to the livebox using the Nokia data cable and a USB/RS232 dongle.

These can be picked up for a couple of squid on ebay.  I have only tested the 7110 with the livebox but I see no reason why the 6110 wouldn't work equally as well.

Thanks :) Apologies for the delay in replying.

It seems I have a somewhat obscure phone, not helped by Nokia giving a later model the same number (6110 / 6110 Navigator - they're very different!).

I'm having trouble finding an RS232 cable at a price I'm prepared to pay but would a USB one work just as well? Is there anything "odd" with the way the Livebox's USB port is configured which would *require* an RS232 cable + USB adaptor, instead of just a USB cable?

Cheers,

Tim.

Nokia cable

Hi Tim,

The HAH firmware expects to talk to a serial port. In testing, we achieved this by using an inexpensive 'USB to serial cable' to connect the phone. The USB driver in the HAH makes this appear to the OS as a serial port.

Unless the USB cable that you are able to purchase is recognised by the Livebox as a USB to serial cable, it won't work. No guarantees if you decide to give it a try.

I have a number of the cables that connect the Nokia 7110 to an RS232 DB9 serial - not sure if the phone that you have has the same connector (or even if it uses the same command set as the 7110).

If you would like to get ahold of the correct cable and/or a 7110, drop me a note.

Derek
