Home Automation - Want to know moreabout it?

We are shifting to our new house so I'm thinking of getting a home automation setup. I want to be able to control lights (well, lamps really), home theater (mostly audio, including set zones around the house) from a central touch screen/smart phone/web interface. I'm also looking into pet feeders as well, that you can load up with dry food and set to a timer. Will list down some more things that could be automated.

However, I am unable to decide which brand to go for or where to get more information on home automation. I want to be thorough before making any decision.

Well, it's good to see that you are taking time to write down what you require before going shopping. Quite a few folks just buy something and are then disappointed when it turns out not to do a specific job.

The HAH is a bit of a 'swiss army knife' in that it can do a variety of HA related things. However, it is quite a hands-on affair. It's likely that you will need to do some work to get to where you want to be.

As for resources ... http://www.automatedhome.co.uk/ is a good place to go look. Their forums are well supported by a wide range of HA enthusiasts and suppliers. People looking for HA advice there generally get a friendly reception.

Cheers,
Derek.
