I have been experimenting today and simply added a 1/4 wave wire to the ground on the HAHNode to create a 1/2 wave dipole. And, I know its early days, but I am getting a fantastic result.

So, that is an antenna of approx 73mm sticking up from the Antenna hole and a second wire coming out the bottom of the board from the 'G' hole next to the antenna of the same size.

With this I am getting reliable reports from my allotment Greenhouse (we live next door to the allotments, but my plot is not adjacent). The greenhouse is about 50 metres away but it has to go through 2 double thickness walls and the HAH is stuck down in the electricity cupboard at floor height.

Just thought I would share.

Derek - FYI, I understand thicker wire make for a wider bandwidth antenna, so if you get the chance to make the holes a little bigger that would be good. Obviously wider bandwidth will help with cutting (in)accuracy for the antenna lengths at such short wavelenghts.

Oh for petes sake

Alan you beat me to it...

i have also been experimenting with ant's and the best i have found is with using 10mm heating copper pipe my lengths were a little shorter at 68mm each but wahts 5mm between friends..

unlike you its the size of my garden i now have reliable comms at 45metres via 2 outside double walls and 1 wooden door.

LOL

Sorry Dean, well 2 old hams were bound to start playing with antennas ;-)

And there really is no need to boast about your property size ;-) its expensive down here dont you know?

I calculated 73mm, but I dont think that includes any velocity factor. Wanted to get something up and going as spring will be upon us.
