The Airwicks are good. They look nice and blend in quite well but in some places they just don't work.

I wanted a similar hiding place for a node on the landing and with no suitable flat surface to place an Airwick I was on the hunt. (I did have an Airwick suspended upside down on the ceiling but I have to admit, it looked a little odd)

I found this ceiling mounted PIR that wasn't much more expensive than an Airwick on a certain auction site. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007H5SSQ4/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A plus side to this was that SWMBO liked the look of it.

So hacking time...the unit comes with a PIR sensor but it is mains powered and the PCB is quite spacious.

I removed the PCB and started reorganising the internals but would it fit a battery clip, the node and a PIR +

The PIR I used give a source output so no need for pullup in code and the output is high when movement seen so you have to change the PIR input in the roomnode sketch. I also fitted a DHT22 instead of the DS to give me humidity as well as temperature.

This is the updated roomnode sketch that I have working for me (you may have to mod bits)
