Sanity check the livebox / HAH

Hello all!

So, i've just finished building my livebox. I'm not normally one that is often seen with a soldering iron and so i'm quite pleased that i've been able to get it all on the board neatly. Unfortunately i also don't have a multimeter and so powering it up involved a lot of crossed fingers. Never the less, after a few issues getting it on the right network i'm now able to see an IP address on my router and i get to the web interface.

My question however, is about how do i check that its all working okay? There was certainly one component i'm not sure is particularly well connected and i know that the LCD doesn't seem to be working but how do i know for definate that all of the things that are supposed to be working, are working?

For example i can :

- browse to the Home Automation Hub web interface via an IP addres.

- SSH into the system

But i can't :

- find out the root / admin password in able to log in

- see anything on the LCD.

- tell if the HAH web server pages that i'm seeing is actually part of the bits and pieces i've built, or if thats just running of the livebox iteself.

Obviously answers to the first two would be appreciated however the concept of a build verification test would really help me to understand that all the pieces that i've built are indeed working as expected.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

login etc

login is root, password is admin. That should get you in. On the web interface page if it says "Build 301/3.4" or similar, you would be seeing that the HAH pcb is being detected. Try downloading the virtual LCD from the site it should at least show you what should be visible on the actual LCD.

Hope this helps a bit.

:) Thank you for the quick

:) Thank you for the quick reply. root / admin was about the only combination that i didn't try! I can see 'Build 298/3.4' so i'm guessing that all my dodgy soldering has actually got something to work at least! :)

I've downloaded what i think is the virtual LCD application you mention but it seems to be showing the same thing as the physical LCD shows - specifically nothing! :( I've even tried giving it messages from the Automation -> Control pages but i get no change. At this point i should add that technically i'm on a different network to the livebox at the moment - its on a 192.168.1.x network and i'm on a 192.168.2.x network. Will that matter? I can still access the web interface and SSH in etc. I guess its good to see that the two are showing the same, but any reason why it would be showing nothing?

Thanks, Andy.

Not an expert

I'm not really a networking expert but my gut reaction is that you should check that you are on the same sub-net (255.255.255.0) or whatever. If that doesn't help then perhaps networking is the issue but others may be able to be more help.

xFx viewer

Install xFx viewer on a PC that is on the same subnet as the HAH. You will then be able to see the xAP messages from the HAH. On the LCD front, do try adjusting the little trimpot.

It would also help if you can post up a screenshot of the UI ... then we can see if the inputs on you HAH PCB are being read correctly.

Cheers,
Derek.

Hi, So, i've been able to get

Hi,

So, i've been able to get my laptop on the same network and installed the viewer to see the xfX events. I can rather satisfyingly see 4 inputs, 4 relays ( what are these? ) and 4 RF channels. They all seem to be off at the moment. I've also decided to plug in my current cost meter ( CC128 ) and also get a currentcost:ch.1 event as well. These show the current watt reading from the display. At least i know this part of it is working!

I'll happily send screenshots, but which screen do you need?

Given that the CC128 was working, i also tried a Pachube feed. I have the following settings ( see attached ) but the feed appears to be frozen.

My only other 'want' is to get / test the RF system. Is there any way of sanity checking this is working?

Thanks to all that have helped so quickly so far.

Andy.

Couple of things

The latest release is 301 you are on 298 you might want to upgrade -> http://www.dbzoo.com/livebox/upgrades_backups

Your pachube settings for currentcost are wrong -> http://www.dbzoo.com/livebox/xap_currentcost#feeding_to_pachube which might explain why its in a frozen state.
